Wrap Up from EduTECH Australia 2019

When everybody plays, we all win

Every year, the EduTECH Australia conference brings together the best and brightest minds in education innovation to compare, share, and learn from one another and 2019 was no exception.

  • 10,000+ in-person attendees
  • 2,500 keynote attendees
  • 284 sponsors and exhibitors
  • 720 attendees at breakout seminar sessions

Here are some of our highlights from EduTECH and the Microsoft stand this year.

We delivered the opening keynote: Digital Transformation
The EduTECH conference got underway with our VP of Worldwide Education, Anthony Salcito, taking to the stage for the opening plenary address. He shared his thoughts on “Digital Transformation” and why it is about more than technology alone. It requires that we re-imagine the future of education and embrace a way of bringing together people, data, and processes to build deeper relationships and create more valuable experiences for today’s students – one that supports them to fully develop their talents.

Anthony also went on to announce that the next Microsoft Education Exchange (E2) will be held in Australia for the very first time – Sydney, March 23-26, 2020. Bringing the event to Australia allows us to highlight the incredible innovations in education happening across the country. Find out more about our E2 announcement.

Learning opportunities for educators and IT managers
Tapping into the expert knowledge not only of our Microsoft team, but also our Microsoft Innovator Educator Experts (or MIE Experts as they are known), we provided 41 demonstrations on the stand across the 2 days of EduTECH. Running simultaneously in our teacher and IT demonstration zones, the stand was a buzz with sharing and learning as we covered a wide range of topics including Mixed Reality, Flipgrid, OneNote, Microsoft Teams, Minecraft: Education Edition, Azure based technologies, PowerBI, Intune for Education and so much more.

Hands-on at the Creation Station
Our small group classes at the Creation Station were extremely popular with teachers and IT admins getting hands-on with AI, building bots, MergeCubes and everyone’s favourite – making chicken rain with Minecraft: Education Edition.

Accessible learning for all: Inclusivity Pod
In the Inclusivity Pod, teachers experienced hands-on demonstrations of our free learning tools – Immersive Reader, Dictate, Microsoft Translator, Office Lens – and how they can be used to support all learners across reading, writing, maths and communication.

Playing to win
They may not have the height to take the court for Australia, but the teachers didn’t hold back as they battled it out playing Slam Dunk for the chance to win an Xbox One S.

Our winner on Day 1 took home the prize with a score of 56, whilst Day 2 brought fierce competition, taking it right down to the wire, with a winning score of 70 posted just before the final buzzer. Many more talented participants took home our sweatband.

Free Microsoft Certification Exams
Prodigy Learning saw a steady stream of EduTECH attendees visit the onsite Learning Lab with 215 Microsoft Certification Exams delivered for FREE. Some attendees took the opportunity to sit not one, not two, but five exams and 119 certifications were earned over the two day event.

We made a lot of new friends – and caught up with many old ones
Those visiting the Microsoft stand experienced an action packed demonstration agenda along with the latest Surface devices, education tools and Office 365 features all on display. But perhaps the most valuable of all, were the discussions and meetings that happened in and around our space, where educators from all backgrounds came together with a common goal: to discover how to best prepare their students for the future.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by, had a chat, and shared their thoughts on how digital can inspire in students the creativity, collaboration, and curiosity they need for the future.

Our goal at Microsoft is to empower every student to achieve more and to do this we have a range of resources available to support educators in achieving better learning outcomes for all students. Find the right Windows devices for your students, deploy Office 365 Education with ease,  join our Educator Centre for free training and connect with others, or attend one of our MS Edu Meets or IT IQ Edu Meets workshops.
